EUGENE, Ore. - Freshman Trevor Brown led the way for Colorado State Friday at Hayward Field by advancing to the quarterfinals in the men's 110-meter hurdles. He and six other athletes competed for the Rams on Day 2 at the NCAA regional.
Finishing fourth in his heat with a time of 14.22 seconds, Brown finished 22nd overall advancing to the next round, which will take place Saturday. The top three times from each quarter plus the next three best times will advance to the finals in Des Moines, Iowa.
"It was a great race for Brown running into a head wind," commented Head Coach Brian Bedard. "I'm looking forward to his final."
Kelby Dias finished 38th overall in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.66.
Nicole Peters took 29th in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:33.04, while Kaitlin Hanenburg finished 46th, crossing the line at 11:02.92.
"Nicole ran really well but struggled with some of the barriers, which cost her some time," said Bedard. "She was close to a person record."
Unable to get a legal throw in the women's hammer was junior Kenisha Throughsingh. She fouled on each of her three attempts.
Spenser Lynass and Jake Keyser competed in the men's steeplechase in the last event of the evening. Lynass placed 18th with a time of 9:00.21 and Keyser finished with a time of 9:12.14 in 33rd place.
"Unfortunately Jake was knocked down in his heat," said Bedard. "He was running in fourth place when another runner fell in front of him, knocking Jake down."
Jessica Sharbono will be the first Ram to compete Saturday starting at 11 a.m. MT with the discus throw.
