LOS ANGELES, Calif. – After the Western Water Polo Association championship tournament wrapped up on Sunday, the conference announced awards for the all-tournament team. And once again, senior Ali Pavlik found herself being recognized for her constant effort.
The WWPA awarded Pavlik with all-tournament honors after she recorded eight goals through the final two games. On Friday, East Bay managed to keep her scoreless, something that had not happened often in 2011.
“She really put the team on her back the past few days,” said coach Mike Moody. “She wanted to make sure things went her way in her final tournament.”
Pavlik set numerous records during the 2011 season and, quite arguably, will be remembered as one of the most productive players in CSU water polo history.
This season she moved into first place in the career goals and assists categories. She also recorded the second-best goal-scoring season in Rams history during 2011, when she tallied 69 goals (including conference championships). Only Annie Quinn scored more goals in a season when she tallied 72 in 2006.
“She did a phenomenal job all season,” said Moody. “She is worthy of everything that she received this year.”
Last week, the senior was awarded first-team all-conference. This marked the first time in CSU water polo history that an individual was given this honor.
Ali Pavlik’s 2011 awards:
First-team all-WWPA
Second-team all-tournament
Team MVP (Rotary Award)
WWPA co-Player of the Week (April 20, along with fellow CSU senior Orsi Nadasdy)
