STILLWATER, Okla. - Colorado State improved its Day 3 score by 14 strokes Thursday, finishing with a 308 in the third round of the semifinal at the NCAA championship. The Rams tournament run was cut short, however, as the team placed 30th and will not advance to match play.

CSU completed the semifinal round with a 307-322-308, totaling 937 (+73). The Rams finished four strokes behind their nearest competitor, Arizona. The top eight teams, led by UCLA (+8) will advance to a bracket style of match play. The other seven schools continuing on are Georgia Tech (+11), Oklahoma State (+15), Illinois (+15), Georgia (+20), Ohio State (+23), Augusta State (+24) and Duke (+25).

"We played a little better today, but still made too many mistakes," said Head Coach Jamie Bermel. "Overall, I'm very proud of our guys and the year we had. Not many people expected us to be playing in the NCAA final after graduating three seniors. The younger players got more experience and it's my hope next year we continue to improve."

Zahkai Brown and Ryan Peterson led the way for CSU in the third round, both finishing +2 on the day. Brown took the individual title for the Rams tying for 93rd with a three-round mark of 78-77-74, totaling 229 (+13). Peterson finished behind him tying for 111th with 77-81-74--232 (+16). Kory Harrell, who posted the Rams' lowest round on Day 1 with a 73, had trouble in the final two stanzas with identical scores of 82. He finished the tournament with a three-round tally of 237 (+21), tying for 129th place. Kirby Pettitt took 143rd place with 79-83-80--242 (+26) and Mike Sorenson tied for 144th with 82-82-80--244 (+28).

Competition was steep this year. Karsten Creek was also home to the 2003 NCAA championship in which Clemson was awarded the title with a four-round total of 1191 (+39), a score higher than any other NCAA championship total since 2000.
