NORMAN, Okla. – Colorado State golfer Zahkai Brown was one of 139 golfers – including eight Mountain West peers – named as a Division I Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America scholar last week by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Brown, who will return to CSU as a senior in 2011-12, turned in an outstanding junior campaign in helping the Rams to the NCAA championship field in 2010-11.
A product of Arvada, Colo., Brown competed in all 39 rounds for the Rams last season, compiling a stroke-average of 72.97. He shot a season-low round of 63 at April’s Wyoming Cowboy Classic, tying the school record he previously shared with Dustin Morris and his older brother Zen Brown. Brown boosted the Rams to a second-place finish at the NCAA Colorado Regional when he tied the course record with an opening round of 65. He also completed play at the NCAA Championships as the Rams’ top individual finisher, tallying a 13-over 229 to tie for 88th.
Brown also excels in the classroom where he boasts a 3.42 grade-point average in business administration.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status on the Division I level, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of their team’s competitive rounds, or compete in the NCAA Championships and have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Brown was accompanied on the list by seven other MW golfers:
Sam Chavez, New Mexico
Travis Ross, New Mexico
Eli Cole, TCU
Johan de Beer, TCU
Tom Hoge, TCU
Scott Roudebush, TCU
Derek Adams, Utah
