FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State women's tennis team will open season play this weekend, hosting the second annual CSU Invitational at the University Tennis Complex Saturday and Sunday.
Admission and parking are free.
In last year’s two-day invitational, the Rams hosted teams from Weber State and the University of Northern Colorado. This year Colorado State will be hosting in-state rival, UNC.
All matches will take place at the University Tennis Complex, located south of the main Colorado State campus, on Research Blvd. north of Drake.
The tournament will be structured in flight format to allow players to gain experience across the lineup.
"This tournament will be a good opportunity for us to get players mixed up at different levels," said Head Coach Jon Messick. "It will also be a good opportunity for everybody to get experience at different levels against different players."
Match play will run Saturday through Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. both days for singles play. The remaining two flights will follow a tentative schedule beginning at 1 p.m. for the doubles flight and 2:30 p.m for the final singles flight.
Northern Colorado will bring eight players in addition to the Rams’ eight players, but both teams may see some players sit out due to injuries suffered last season.
"The next two tournaments are really good, tough tournaments," said Messick. "The tough competition will give us a chance to prepare for regionals."
The Rams look to gain momentum going into tournament season and ultimately prepare themselves for regionals in October.
