LOS ANGELES, Calif.—Carrying momentum over from the first day of the Loyola Marymount Invitational, the Colorado State Rams had their most successful day of the season, sweeping a pair of games against Cal State San Bernardino and Pomona-Pitzer Saturday afternoon.

In the first game, the Rams (4-13) defeated Cal State San Bernardino, 12-7. CSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never trailed in the victory, receiving goals from six different players.

“I think we had a pretty successful weekend out here,” coach Mike Moody said. “We’re still pretty banged up, but the girls played well.”

Senior Kallie Berry led the charge with four goals. Junior Caroline Young also recorded a hat trick with three. Senior Amber Bryan scored twice, while Kelcy Barott, Lauren Porteus and Shelby Schaefer each had one goal.

In the second game, CSU was victorious over Pomona-Pitzer, 11-6. Again, the Rams led wire to wire, carrying a 6-2 lead into halftime. Young scored four times, Porteus twice and Barott, Berry, Bryan, Schaefer and Stone once. In the two games, junior Melissa Fisher combined for 17 saves.

The pair of wins gives CSU a 3-1 record on the weekend. The Rams finished third out of the seven teams, only behind host LMU and Cal State Bakersfield, who both went 4-0.

“Our offense started clicking, and our defense played really well,” Moody said. “I’m just really pleased with how things went today.”

Moody’s squad has the next week off before returning to action March 31-April 1 for the Cal State Bakersfield Tournament.
