COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado State freshman Abby Stevens was named to the Mountain West all-conference women’s tennis team, as selected by the league’s nine head coaches and announced Thursday night. The news capped a successful day for the ninth-seeded Rams, who defeated eighth-seeded New Mexico 4-2 in the tournament’s first round earlier in the day at the Air Force Academy.

Stevens, from Wichita, Kansas, is one of just three freshmen to make the 14-member All-Mountain West squad in singles. With a singles record of 19-11 (10-9 in dual matches), Stevens’ honor is the second in a row for a Colorado State freshman, following Natalie Heffron’s selection last season in her first year of play.

Stevens moved into the No. 1 singles position for the Rams at mid-season, and has excelled, compiling a 3-5 record in the top spot, facing strong competition from around the Mountain West. She is 2-0 at the No. 4 position and 5-4 at No. 2 after going 9-4 in fall tournament play.

The Rams continue their journey through the Mountain West Championships Friday morning at 10 a.m. (MT), taking on No. 1 seed San Diego State. Live scoring is available on the MW’s Championship Central page.
