Laird shoots 9-under in final round, wins Texas Open

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Former Ram golfer Martin Laird sunk three birdies in the final three holes, holding off Rory McIlroy, for the win at the Texas Open Sunday.
Laird began the final round four shots behind then-leader Billy Horschel, but his bogey-free, nine-birdie round put him into the lead. The 2004 CSU graduate tied the course record with a 63 in the final round, tallying a minus-14 overall. He finished two strokes ahead of McIlroy (-12), who birdied four of his final eight holes. Horschel finished tied for third (-11) with Jim Furyk and Charley Hoffman.
It was Laird’s third win on the PGA Tour and his first since the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2011.
