Head Coach Tom Hilbert
(on his team's composure)
“It was a great, competitive effort by our team to win tight sets at the end. You saw a lot of people making great plays. Our team has incredible composure."
“I’m just proud of my players because I think we competed really, really well at critical times."
(on winning the close sets)
“The second set we were down by a fairly large margin, but came back and won it at the end." They just don’t get rattled. When we got to 19-19 in the third set I felt like we were going to win, because we know how to close sets.”
(on the performance of junior opposite hitter Adrianna Culbert)
“This was as well as Dri has ever played. She’s great when she’s moving around and really into it. She was flying around, getting kills, digging balls and doing all the things we wanted her to do. I was super pleased.”
“Deej (Deedra Foss) picked really nice times to set her. New Mexico was trying to double our middles, even in three-hitter rotations, and left Dri open. She had some really critical sideouts, especially the one at the end of the second set. There was one toward the end of the third set, too. She was just very consistent all night.”
(on limiting Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year Chantale Riddle)
“We did a good job against Chantale. I thought she was put in some precarious situations and made some more errors than you would think. We were also digging her pretty well, and I felt like our blocking on her early must have changed their game plan or something. They were setting their outside hitters more on interior routes.”
(on his team’s defense)
“We had a serving strategy to take Riddle out, but I was surprised that they didn’t set her more. None of their hitters hit above .200. I just feel like we did a nice job defending. If you look at their pin hitters, they didn’t get a lot of kills.”
“Our defense played great the entire night; I thought that’s what won the match for us.”
(on the team’s offense)
“I don’t know if we had a great deal of offensive pop today. They were digging a lot of balls, but we kept staying patient and were getting the ball to the right people.”
(on CSU’s two outside hitters)
“I thought both of our outside hitters got better at the end of the game. I thought Jasmine was trying to get a little to tricky early in the match, and then I got on her and said, ‘We’re not going to win this with tips and rolls.’ She started swinging, and she got three really critical kills in the last game. I’ll take a performance like this any day from Marlee.”
(on serving)
“I thought we served the ball well. We served the ball in a way that disrupted some of Chantale’s (Riddle’s) approach routes.”
(on the importance of getting this win on the road)
“This is a team (New Mexico) who’s going to win a lot of its matches at home. You get a road win here and it sets you apart from people. We’re staying consistent, and I’m super happy about it.”
(on CSU’s upcoming match at Air Force)
“We don’t have much time before we’re at it again. Air Force is better than they’ve ever been.”
