FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State women's basketball team has been practicing since the beginning of October and is ready to take the court for its first preseason matchup vs. Metro State on Thursday at 7 p.m. MT at Moby Arena.

This will be the first and only exhibition contest for both schools. CSU is coming off a spectacular 25-8 season, finishing first in the Mountain West, while the Roadrunners finished 13-14 overall and 12-10 in the RMAC, taking sixth in the final standings.

The game will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network. Visit CSURams.com/videos to access the live stream.

About Metro State

MSU Denver returns just one starter from a team that finished the year with a 10-6 mark in its final 16 games. This season the team was picked to repeat its sixth-place finish, tying Fort Lewis in the RMAC preseason poll.

The Roadrunners are coached by Tanya Haave, who begins her fourth season with an impressive 91-31 mark at the school. Prior to last season, Haave led MSU Denver to three consecutive NCAA Division II tournament berths, tallying over 20 victories each year.

Rams picked 1st

The Colorado State women's basketball team was selected to finish in first place in the Mountain West's preseason poll.

CSU garnered 21 of the 28 first-place votes available, and received 276 points overall. Boise State ranked second with 241 points and four first-places votes, while Wyoming rounded out the top three at 235 points and three first-place votes.

This is just the second time in the history of the Mountain West that Colorado State was predicted to win the league title. The Rams also received a first-place projection prior to the 2001-02 season, a forecast that they lived up to.

Last season the Rams surprised everyone but themselves, finishing 15-3 in conference play and capturing the regular-season crown following a seventh place preseason projection. Colorado State's 25-8 record overall accounted for the third-biggest turnaround in the country following 2012-13's 11-19 tally.

Nystrom gets preseason nod

Returning for her sophomore campaign, Ellen Nystrom earned a spot on the five-person preseason all-Mountain West team. Last year she became the most decorated CSU athlete in a single season with four all-conference awards: co-freshman of the year, second-team all-MW, all-defensive team and all-freshman team.

The Lulea, Sweden, native returns after leading the team last year in rebounds (6.6) and steals (43), while ranking second in assists (112) behind Rams' point guard Gritt Ryder.

Williams' contract extended through 2018-19 season

Colorado State University and women's basketball head coach Ryun Williams finalized a new five-year contract over the summer that will keep the Rams' leader at the helm through at least the 2018-19 season.

CSU named to WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll

The Colorado State women's basketball team was recognized with a spot on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The Rams are one of the top schools academically at the NCAA DI level, ranking No. 22 with a 3.399 grade-point average.

This is the first time Colorado State has made the list, dating back to the 1995-96 season, when the WBCA first recognized the honor roll. CSU was the only school in the Mountain West and one of three Colorado schools to make the list this year, joining Northern Colorado who falls in at No.3 (3.614) and Denver at No. 14 (3.498). Missouri-Kansas City took the top spot with a 3.628 GPA.
