AP Top 25 Poll
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State women’s basketball team is receiving one vote in the AP Top 25 preseason poll, released Thursday.
This is the first time the Rams have received at least one vote in the AP poll since Jan. 13, 2003, and the first time in either of the major polls since December of that same year.
Returning four starters from an outstanding performance last season, CSU was selected to finish in first place in the Mountain West's preseason poll. Last season the Rams surprised everyone but themselves, finishing 15-3 in conference play and capturing the regular-season crown following a seventh place preseason projection. Colorado State's 25-8 record overall accounted for the third-biggest turnaround in the country following 2012-13's 11-19 tally.
CSU highest ranking in its 39-year history was during the 1998-99 season, when the team reached No. 4 in both the AP and Coaches polls. That year the Rams finished with a program-best 33-3 record and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
After a 90-62 win over Metro State in their only exhibition contest last night, Colorado State will open the season at home in Moby Arena vs. Hawai’i on Nov. 14. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
