Head Coach Tom Hilbert
(on overview of the game)
“I thought we played great, and I know people who observed me during that match might not have thought that I thought that. I was upset with a few individual plays, especially in Set 2 and in crunch time. We struggled with some serve-receive issues tonight, and I think it’s a lack of composure. I don’t understand quite why that’s happening, but we can fix it because we’ve been better than this already. Outside of that, I thought we were good, and defensively we played well. That third set was probably as good a transition game as we’ve had. We had 20 kills, which means we’re digging balls and converting them. We didn’t get 20 sideout kills, and that’s because of this young lady (Adrianna Culbert) right here, and because of good ball control in defensive situations and people making smart plays.”
(on player performances)
“Dri (Culbert) hit the ball really well tonight, and she was explosive. She got blocked early, and I was scared that it would affect her but it didn’t. She came through and hit .350. Jasmine Hanna was hitting .133 after two sets, and then she just killed it in the final set. We had some people step up really big for us. I think when you have a setter as good as Deedra (Foss), it creates separation and a lot of good things happen.”
(on what’s working well with his team)
“People make big plays and we’re not making crucial mistakes. Some other teams that we play are, and that means that we’re better. I can tell you that there are things that we can do better that we did tonight, but we’re still so good in the defensive transition part of the game that it doesn’t matter."
(on blocking)
"I thought we should stuff more balls, and that’s probably because they were covering well. I was very happy because we started slowing a lot of stuff, and it helped Jaime (Colaizzi) make plays, which helped us turn that into offense.”
(on the Orange Out tradition and crowd of more than 4,300)
“Every time we have these combos with football and Orange Outs, it always is great for us. We had 4,300 people here, and I think they had a good time. It’s a great way to celebrate our history as Colorado A&M Aggies, and I want to thank the fans for making this a great place to play. At the end of the game I took (Kelsey) Snider and Marlee (Reynolds) out, brought them over and told them to take this all in. As seniors this is going to be it, and this is a great environment and great place to play.”
Junior opposite hitter Adrianna Culbert
(on the importance of getting this win after losing to San Diego State in 2013)
“I don’t know if we were focused on last year as much. They came out really wanting to play hard and they played a great game, and we weren’t really prepared for that at the beginning. We had to step up our level of play just to match theirs and then in the third set, because we have struggled with it a little this season, we just really didn’t want to go to four and we were ready to be done with San Diego State here."
Senior setter Deedra Foss
(on shutting down San Diego State in the final set)
“We didn’t want to let them think they even had a chance, so we just came out that third set and crushed them and said, ‘This is Moby.’”
