FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State men’s basketball head coach Larry Eustachy announced Monday afternoon that Rams’ senior forward Gerson Santo suffered a fracture to his left hand early in the Rams’ regular-season finale at Wyoming on Saturday, ending the Brazilian big man’s career on the court for CSU.
“This is just a devastating loss for our team, but more importantly for Gerson,” said Eustachy. “He played his heart out for CSU, and I hate to see something like this end his senior season so abruptly.”
The Rams, who are prepping for the upcoming Reese’s Mountain West Championship at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev., will be forced to do so without Santo, a 6-9, 238-pound forward from Valencia Brazil.
Santo had started all 31 games for the Rams during the regular season, averaging 5.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, ranking second on the team with 17 blocks and in shooting percentage (58.7 percent).
