Pete to compete at IAAF World Junior Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Soon-to-be sophomore Aaliyah Pete will round out the Rams’ summer competition in the shot put Friday at the IAAF World Junior Championships Friday at Hayward Field.

Pete is one of three Americans throwing in the event. She will compete against 35 other athletes from 28 different countries beginning with the qualifying round at 11:10 a.m. MT. Should she advance, the finals will take place at 7:35 p.m. on the same day.

The Omaha, Neb., native currently ranks sixth in the world for those under 20 in the shot. Pete’s personal-best distance of 54 feet, 8.75 inches was thrown this spring at the NCAA preliminary round in Fayetteville, Ark.

The top three finishers in each event will be awarded a gold, silver or bronze medal, respectively.
