LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Junior Jimmy Makloski closed out his first-career top-10 finish Tuesday at the New Mexico State Golf Course, leading the Colorado State men's golf program to a share of fourth place in the 2015 Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. Overall, the Rams notched three top-20 scores, including redshirt freshman Kyler Dunkle who tied for fifth as an individual competitor.

"It was another tough day for scoring," said Rams' head coach Christian Newton. "The course setup made you play disciplined golf. We did a better job of that today and we salvaged a decent finish. I am particularly happy to have Kyler, as an individual, and Jimmy post solid finishes."

Makloski, in his third year at CSU from Pueblo South High School in Pueblo, Colo., shot 3-over during Tuesday's final round, after carding an even-par 142 during Rounds 1 and 2 on Monday, to finish tied for eighth place with a 54-hole score of 216 (+3). Makloski finished seven strokes behind individual medalist Mans Berglund of Lamar who shot a three-round total of 4-under 209, including a closing 71, but was able to close out his first individual top-10 finish of his CSU career.

"Today wasn't as solid as yesterday," said Makloski of his final score. "It was just a round where I was trying to hold it together. It was nice to see that even though I made mistakes, I could salvage a decent round and a good finish."

Makloski was one of three Rams to card top-20 finishes, but it was redshirt freshman Kyler Dunkle, from Larkspur, Colo., that posted CSU's top mark, tying for fifth place in the 84-player field. Although he did not figure into CSU's team scoring, Dunkle shot 71 in Rounds 1 and 3, with a 2-over 73 during Monday afternoon's second round, to finish as the top individual competitor, one stroke better than host New Mexico State's Mike McGilton.

Junior Blake Cannon, playing in the Rams' lineup for the first time since the season-opening win at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, posted his second top-20 finish of the year. The Arizona State transfer from Mesa, Ariz., also closed with a 3-over 74 to move up two spots on the individual leaderboard with a final score of 219 (+6). Sophomore Max Oelfke finished one stroke behind Cannon in a six-way tie for 21st, also closing with 3-over on Tuesday after to move up two spots on the leaderboard.

Senior Dominic Kieffer made the Rams' biggest jump of the day, returning to form after shooting a 78 (+7) in Round 2. Kieffer closed the tournament by matching his Round 1 score of 1-over 72, jumping 17 spots up the individual leaderboard with a 54-hole total of 222 (+9), three strokes outside of the top 20. Junior Alec Bone also competed for the Rams, carding a three-round score of 20-over 233 (76-77-80), to finish tied for 72nd.

As a team, the Rams finished with a three-round total of 876 (+24), matching Lamar for fourth place and finishing 22 strokes behind tournament champion UTEP (854), five strokes behind second-place Grand Canyon (871) and just one shot off the pace of third-place finisher Wichita State (875). Host New Mexico State (877) finished one shot behind the Rams and the Antelopes, followed by No. 7 Sam Houston State (884), No. 8 Odessa College (885), Stephen F. Austin (888) in ninth and Northern Illinois (892) rounding out the top 10. UT-Arlington (893) finished 11th, followed by UT-Rio Grande Valley (896), Western New Mexico (902) and Incarnate Word (914).

Next up, Colorado State closes the fall season Nov. 2-4, as part of the field at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational in Princeville, Hawai'i.
