Phill Hansel Invite - Results
AUSTIN/HOUSTON, Texas – The Colorado State swimming and diving team concluded its final day split across both the Phill Hansel Invite hosted by Houston and the University of Texas Diving Invitational. CSU placed fifth at the Phill Hansel Invite, moving up from sixth place late on the final day.
CSU trailed Oregon State in fifth place over most of the three-day meet, but part-way through the final session, the Rams jumped the Beavers and held on through the final relays.
“It was very exciting,” CSU assistant coach Mackenzie Brown said. “In the mid-point of the final session, we took fifth place from Oregon State and the girls just had a lot of energy and it was exciting to see them have that kind of energy and finish fast.”
Freshman Mackenzie Halligan led CSU with 65 total points over the three days, followed by redshirt freshman Carmen Mand (63) and junior Jenna Beaury (61). Beaury posted a 2:15.16 in the 200 Breaststroke, making the NCAA B Cut.
Junior Karin Roh recorded a time of 50.87 in the 100 Free, setting a personal-best in the event. Roh would go on to finish seventh in the final. Freshman Ida Donohue improved on her 1650 Free time by almost 15 seconds, finishing in 16:59.52.
CSU’s biggest strength over the past three days was their unity as a team, and the staff believes that is also the biggest takeaway as the Rams’ fall season ends.
“They became a little more in tuned with each other,” Brown said. “In every event, the whole team was standing up and cheering their teammates on. The biggest thing we are taking away is that we really came together as a team and really supported each other. We also had the most parents in the stands, and CSU alum and multiple record holder Jennifer Lamb came out and watched as well.”
Senior diver Ariana Milone placed 14th (181.60) in the platform dive event during the final day at the UT Diving Invitational, while junior Emily Williams placed 16th (173.95).
CSU will return to action on Jan. 16 in a dual meet at Northern Arizona.
