Poletto named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Sophomore middle blocker Alexandra Poletto has been named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
The award is the second of the season for the Toronto, Ontario, native. Poletto was named Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 26. She also becomes the second CSU player this season to win both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, joining senior Adrianna Culbert.
Poletto dominated at the net for CSU in the team's two road victories last week, averaging 2.14 blocks per set. She starred in the Rams' sweep at New Mexico on Saturday, tallying a career-high nine blocks including a personal-best five solo stuffs. Over a five-point CSU run in the third set, Poletto provided three solo blocks to extend CSU's lead. Overall, Poletto was a key cog for the CSU defense, holding both opponents to a combined .086 hitting percentage for the week, including -.054 against New Mexico.
She also was efficient offensively, recording 13 kills with only three errors across the two matches, good for a .400 hitting percentage.
The 15th-ranked Rams can clinch a share of the Mountain West title with a win against San Jose State at home on Thursday at 7 p.m. MT. CSU is currently riding a 15-match win streak, and holds a perfect 14-0 record in league play. CSU has won 14 straight matches to open Mountain West play three times since joining the conference in 1999. CSU has not lost a match since Sept. 20, with 12 of its wins being sweeps. The Rams also reached the 20-win plateau for the 21st consecutive season with its four-set win at Air Force on Thursday, the fourth-longest 20-win streak in the nation.
