Colorado State defensive back DeAndre Elliott has accepted an invitation to play in the 2016 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, joining Rams' offensive lineman Sam Carlson. The fifth annual NFLPA Collegiate Bowl will take place at 4 p.m. MT on Jan. 23 in Carson, Calif. The game will air nationally on ESPN2, with team practices on Jan. 20 and 21 being televised live on ESPNU.
Elliott, a senior from Dallas, Texas, has two interceptions this season in addition to a blocked field goal. Both turnovers led to CSU touchdowns, as did Elliott's blocked kick. With the game tied in the fourth quarter, the senior blocked New Mexico's 38-yard field-goal attempt, which set up a 92-yard game-winning scoring drive for the Rams.
For his career, Elliott has seven interceptions - including one returned 76 yards for a touchdown - plus 123 tackles, 34 passes defended and two fumble recoveries.
Previously, Aaron Davis (2014), Jared Biard (2013) and Paul Madsen (2011) have also competed in the game. The experience is much more than a game for the participating players. For one week, participants will receive an in-depth introduction to their future union. The NFLPA, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2016, is the primary resource for players for information on the business of football and how to succeed in the NFL and in their post-football careers.
Mike Martz will attempt to defend his 2015 National Team title against Mike Holmgren's American Team. In the rematch, participating players will benefit from instruction by some of the best to ever play and coach the sport.
