NCAA West Preliminary Central

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --
The Colorado State track & field team will send 26 athletes to the 2015 NCAA West Preliminary beginning May 28, in Austin, Texas. The Rams will compete in 32 events in the first leg of their journey to the NCAA Championships.

This is the highest number of student-athletes CSU has advanced to the postseason in at least 10 years. Colorado State also competed in 32 events during the 2006 season. The Rams' preliminary field is comprised of 14 women and 12 men, 14 track stars and 12 field standouts.

Competing in three events, including two top 10 seeds is Kiah Hicks. The senior set a personal record in the discus throw just last week with a toss of 196 feet, 7 inches, ranking No. 2 among those participating at Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium. Teammates Aaliyah Pete (shot put and discus) and Monet Jackson (shot put and hammer), as well as four-time all-Mountain West honoree, Leah Fair (100 meters, 200 meters and 4x100-meter relay), will each take part in multiple events.

The women's squad features four athletes ranked in the top 10 in their respective areas of expertise. In addition to the team's highest ranking of No. 2 in the discus, Hicks ranks No. 10 in the hammer. After her PR, school record, MW championship record, MW all-time record and MW title-winning throw of 55-7.5 at the MW championships, Pete ranks No. 10 in the shot put. Also a school-record holder, senior Jazmyn Webster enters the field at No. 9 in the high jump (6-0) and first-time conference champion Jessi Macedo ranks ninth in the javelin throw (165-5).

The men are represented by two-event competitor Tyler Schultz, who will challenge the preliminary field in both the shot put and hammer throw. Jefferson Abbey holds CSU's highest seed, ranking No. 15 in the 5,000-meter run with a career-best time of 13:50.35 set back at the Stanford Invitational in early April.

First round action runs May 28-30. The top 12 relay teams and individuals from their respective events will advance to the national championships at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., which runs June 10-13.
