AUSTIN, Texas -- The Colorado State track & field team continued to impress on Day 2 of the NCAA West Preliminary at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Rams set three personal records, while two athletes, Kiah Hicks and Lorenda Holston, advanced to the next round.
Opening competition on Friday were discus throwers Hicks and Aaliyah Pete. Not losing focus, Hicks did what she needed to, advancing to the championship round on her first attempt of 176 feet, 9 inches, finishing ninth overall. Pete placed 34th with a best toss of 160-6.
Next in the cage were junior Tyler Schultz and senior Jake Schneeberger, taking part in the hammer throw. Shultz missed the cut by less than two feet, placing 13th with a toss of 206-10. Schneeberger closed his senior campaign with a personal best, reaching 205-5 on his final lob of the afternoon. He took 17th.
Running in the first heat as a 45-seed, sophomore Lorenda Holston took one of the three automatic-qualifying spots, placing third in her heat of the 100-meter hurdles. She is the first Rams' track athlete to advance past the first round, clocking a personal-record time of 13.39 seconds, taking 17th overall. She'll run in the quarterfinal Saturday at 6:05 p.m. MT.
"Kiah was impressive yet again," praised head coach Brian Bedard. "Schultz was a heart-breaker. He and Jake both competed well today. Lorenda had a great day for first-year hurdler. Our young athletes are getting the experience of big-time track."
Senior Jazmyn Webster tied for 29th in the high jump, clearing the bar set at 5-8. In his second event of the day, Schultz placed 42nd in the shot put, tossing 55-2.75 on the second of his three attempts.

Distance runner Sanne Holland clocked 10:38.70 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing 12th in her heat and 28th in the field, while senior Andrew Goodman crossed the finish line in 9:17.31 in the same event, finishing 14th in the second heat and 39th overall.
