CSU vs. Texas: Final Stats Get Acrobat Reader

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 14 CSU Rams volleyball team beat Iona, 3-0, to open the day at the Texas Classic. CSU then fell to No. 4 Texas, 3-0, later in the day. The Rams are now 6-2, with both defeats coming to teams currently in the top 10 of the AVCA Division I Coaches Poll.

Senior Alex Reid tied a career-high with 20 kills, her most as a CSU Ram. Senior setter Crystal Young posted a career-best 43 assists in the victory.

CSU opened up a significant lead early in the first set, and led 15-9 at the media timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Reid and Acacia Andrews combined for a block to keep the momentum rolling, and CSU ran away with a 25-12 win to open the match.

The second set proved to be a battle, as Iona fought back before the intermission. The second set featured four lead changes, but CSU held on to take it 25-22.

CSU stepped on the gas in the third set, going on a 13-5 run to take a 17-9 lead, punctuated by another kill from Reid. The Rams would go on to clinch the match win with a 25-15 third-set win.

STAT OF THE GAME (CSU vs. Iona)…
.402 – CSU had a season-high .402 hitting percentage in its 3-0 win over Iona. Alex Reid led the way, boasting a .545 success rate (20-2-33).

NOTES (CSU vs. Iona)…
• Alex Reid provided a season-high 20 kills for the Rams on a season-best .545 hitting percentage. Reid’s 20 kills also tied her career-high, as she posted 20 kills on two occasions while playing at Long Beach State from 2012-14.
• Alexandra Poletto had a season-high 13 kills and was second on the day in hitting percentage at .524.
• Crystal Young set a personal best with 43 assists, playing a majority of the match as CSU’s lone setter.
• Both Jaime Colaizzi (16) and Cassidy Denny (11) had double-digit dig totals for the Rams.
• Acacia Andrews had seven kills on .500 hitting, and tied a season-high with five blocks.


No. 14 CSU at No. 4 Texas

After dropping the first two points in the first set, CSU went on a 6-1 run to take a 6-3 lead. The Rams would maintain the advantage for a good portion of the period, including taking a 13-9 lead over the Longhorns that forced a Texas timeout. CSU held a 19-18 lead late, but Texas scored seven of the final eight points to win the opening frame, 25-20, and take a 1-0 match lead.

The Longhorns jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the second set, prompting a Rams timeout. CSU answered with three-straight points out of the break, including two service aces from Alex Reid. Texas responded and led the entire set, building an 18-10 lead later in the period. CSU would cut the lead to five on two occasions, including forcing a Texas timeout at 21-16, but the Longhorns held on for a 25-18 set win.

STAT OF THE GAME (CSU vs. Texas)…
.667 – Acacia Andrews’ hitting percentage (6-0-9) versus Texas. The junior middle blocker ranks in the top 10 nationally in hitting percentage.

NOTES (CSU vs. Texas)…
• Adrianna Culbert continued to fill up the stat sheet in a variety of ways, posting nine kills (.300 hitting), 17 assists and six digs against Texas.
• Acacia Andrews contributed six kills (.667 hitting) and three blocks. Andrews ranks in the top 10 nationally in hitting percentage.
• Alex Reid tied for the team lead with 10 digs, and also added 6 kills.
• Six different Rams posted at least five kills, led by nine from Culbert.

NEXT UP:
CSU will drive to College Station, Texas, for its final match of the road trip, facing No. 25 Texas A&M on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. CT/5:30 p.m. MT.
