FORT COLLINS, Colo. –
The @CSUVolleyball team defeated the Utah State Aggies in three sets on Thursday night at Moby Arena. The match also marked the program’s fourth-annual #CSUSocialNight, with selected fans winning prizes at the end of the match.

The Rams (8-3) played strong defense throughout the match, holding the Aggies (4-11) to .044 hitting percentage.

Utah State trailed from the beginning in the first set as CSU quickly built momentum. The Rams started off strong with six consecutive points, earning them a 13-4 lead. Jaime Colaizzi held up the defense, tallying nine digs during the first set. On offense, Alex Reid earned six kills off of 10 total attacks for the Rams, giving her the set’s highest hitting percentage of .600. CSU closed the set strong and took the first point of the match at 25-14.

The second set was a closer match, with USU rallying midway through to trail CSU by just one at 15-14. Adrianna Culbert and Alex Reid shifted the momentum back to the Rams with three consecutive kills, and CSU would hold on to take the second set 25-21, and take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

The Rams scored first in the third set off a service ace from Cassidy Denny, and Utah State would never catch up, with CSU pulling away quickly in the third frame. CSU ultimately closed the match with a block from Acacia Andrews and Julia Cubbedge, winning the final set, 25-15.

IN THEIR WORDS…
“This was one of the better serving matches that we’ve had. I thought this was a great match for Alex Reid and I’m glad because I don’t think we particularly hit well from any of the other positions. We need to be better offensively and have more offensive balance on Saturday because we’re facing a really good Boise State team.” – CSU Head Coach @CoachHilbert

“To be honest, it doesn’t really mean anything to me period. I think it’s really cool, but beyond that it’s not really a big deal. I care more about what I can give to my own experience here and what I can give to my teammates experience here. I think that’s way more important than statistics.” – Senior Jaime Colaizzi on moving into second all-time in digs at CSU

“We’ve definitely been focusing a lot on the setters and this week we’ve been focusing a lot more on what the outsides can do to be better. We worked on swinging high, being aggressive and getting our feet to every single ball. I think that was really helpful, both me and Jasmine made some progress in practice this week.” – Senior Alex Reid

STAT OF THE GAME…
1,252 – With 20 digs in the match, senior libero Jaime Colaizzi moved into second place all-time in career digs at CSU with 1,252. Colaizzi passed Carrie Appleman for second place and is 531 digs behind Katelin Batten for first.

NOTES…
• Colaizzi tallied 20 digs for the second time this season. She also reached 20 in CSU’s sweep of Northern Iowa on Aug. 29.
• Alex Reid led the Rams with 14 kills on .542 hitting (14-1-24). Both stats are her second-best of 2015, with only her performance against Iona (20-2-33, .545) beating it out. Reid also came just one dig shy of a double-double, finishing with nine digs and two blocks.
• CSU held Utah State to just .044 hitting for the match, the second-lowest hitting percentage of any CSU opponent this season. The Rams also kept the Aggies at .100 or below for all three sets.
• CSU hit a match-high .360 in the third set, including a perfect 3-for-3 performance from freshman Julia Cubbedge.
• Alexandra Poletto finished wth six blocks on the night, leading the team. The total was her second-most of the season.
