PARKER, Colo. - The Colorado State men's team couldn't find their stride on the final day of play and finished 11th at the the inaugural Paintbrush Invitational, Oct. 10-11. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of Denver, was played at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, Colo.
The Rams concluded their second round of play early in the day, finishing it with an 11-over 299 for the 18 and a 36-hole score of 12-over 588. CSU then could not get things going in challenging conditions for the rest of the day and posted a 20-over 308 to finish at 32-over 896. Oklahoma State, ranked sixth in the country, took the tournament title at 14-under 850, nine shots clear of runner-up Colorado at 5-under 859. Texas Tech was third at 3-under 861, with defending national champion Oregon (4-over 868) and New Mexico (7-over 871) rounding out the top five teams in the 15-team field.
"We are all disappointed with the overall finish especially since we were one shot back of the lead through 27 holes," head coach Christian Newton said. "However, we aren't discouraged. This is only a small piece of our overall resume. We welcome the challenge to work hard the next two weeks with preparation for our final fall event in Hawaii."
