Recap: Rams wrap up fall action in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Colorado State women’s tennis team capped its fall season over the weekend, participating in the Rebel Invitational, hosted by UNLV. The three-day tournament featured singles and doubles play between seven teams.
The Rams won four total matches, with the weekend being highlighted by several impressive doubles matches. On Sunday, seniors Madison Porter and Celine Voss edged out a Purdue duo to earn a third-place finish in the Flight 2 draw (8-7). Porter and Voss also earned a victory on Friday, defeating an SMU pair, 8-6, to kick off the weekend, before being edged on Day 2, 8-6, by Texas A&M.
Porter also earned a single win on Saturday, defeating Sara Jamal of SMU 6-3, 6-2 in the Flight 5 consolation bracket. The Rams’ fourth victory also came in singles play, when freshman Sandra Keta beat SMU’s Ellie Zogg (6-3, 7-5) in Sunday’s Flight 4 consolation. Keta and doubles teammate Solene Crawley played in the Flight 3 championship on Sunday, but couldn’t keep up with UNLV’s Jovana Kenic and Mercedes Lopez (8-0).
CSU showed a competitive spirit in several additional matches. On Friday, Kolbow (Flight 2) extended her first set vs. UNLV, while Crawley (Flight 5) took her match vs. SMU to three sets, winning the second frame. On Saturday, Kolbow once again forced an extended set while Crawley again went three sets, winning the second frame, 7-5. In the Flight 1 doubles consolation, Kolbow and freshman Riley Reeves battled against Purdue’s Nicole Robinson and Andjela Djokovic – the No. 29 tandem in the country – before falling 8-5.
Reeves is one of four freshmen on the Rams’ roster who made their collegiate debuts this fall. She leads the team with 11 total victories, including six in singles. The Rams now have a break before their spring opener against Colorado on Jan. 22, which will be held at the Fort Collins Country Club.
