FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State's men's and women's basketball programs kicked off their annual "Reading With the Rams" program on Oct. 25 with an afternoon at Shepardson Elementary in Fort Collins.

The afternoon's event started with the basketball players pairing off and heading to various classrooms to read with the students at Shepardson. After the reading sessions were completed, the players joined the entire school for an assembly, where they each introduced themselves to the students in attendance and discussed the importance of reading and school overall. The assembly concluded with a distribution of tickets to a future basketball game, schedule posters and t-shirts.

"This was a great way to start this year's program," assistant director of marketing Patrick Krza said. "We picked Shepardson because of their teacher involvement in asking us to come. They had the highest outreach of e-mails asking to be a part of it, so what better way to kick off the season than with some of our biggest fans and readers."

"I can just remember when I was that age and I had athletes come in and read to me," redshirt-senior Hannah Tvrdy commented. "It just made my day to see people who I wanted to grow up to be. To be able to do that now and give back to them was amazing."

"It makes you feel good when kids are giving you high-fives and smiling and hugging you," redshirt-sophomore Nico Carvacho said. "It just makes my day to give back… as I was once a little kid and just having fun."
