Meet is CSU’s ‘Orange Out’ for 2017-18 season, students to receive free sandwiches

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Rams swimming & diving squad hosts Houston on Friday at 5 p.m. MT at Moby Pool.

The meet is an 'Orange Out', and fans are encouraged to wear orange to the meet. Admission is free, and students will receive free sandwiches in recognition of "National Sandwich Day", while supplies last.

CSU began the 2017-18 season with a strong showing at the Intermountain Shootout and a respectable outing at home against Denver. The team was ultimately disappointed by its performance at Wyoming last week, however. Head Coach Christopher Woodard likes the way his team has responded this week in practice.

"I absolutely expect them to fight," Woodard said about his team's mentality this week. "I expect them to be excited too. It's always good to be at home and it's an orange-out meet. We should see a good amount of fans here. We know that Houston is a very talented team as well because we see them at mid-season and we match up relatively well so I expect them to go in and fight for every point."

Woodard credits the older leaders on the team for really rallying the group this week.

"Some of our senior and junior leadership had a closed-door meeting with the team," Woodard explained. "It was pretty brief, but I think they were hammering on the point we were trying to make which was there's no time to let up and no time for excuses. They all need to step forward and push each other and so far that's what we've seen."

Sophomore Marie Goodwyn has been a standout performer for the Rams this season, winning both the 100 and 200 Butterfly events in all three meets the team has competed in. Senior Rowan Hauber has been similarly stellar, winning the 100 Freestyle in each meet.

In backstroke events, junior Tonicia Thomas has led the way with the team's top times in both the 100 and 200 meter disciplines. Freshman Maddie Ward has been the squad's top breaststroke competitor, while the distance swims have been paced by junior Ida Donohue.

On the boards, freshman Skylar Williams has the team's top marks, and swept the 1- and 3-meter events against Denver in her first NCAA appearance.
