AUSTIN, Texas - Grant Fischer, Linnea Jonsson and Jerrell Mock of the Colorado State track & field team each placed top 10 in their respective events at the NCAA West Preliminary on Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium to advance to the NCAA Championships.

To qualify for the NCAA Championships, qualifiers for the NCAA West Preliminary must finish their respective events among the top 12. Each of Fischer and Mock advance to the NCAA Championships in the 10,000 meters, while Jonsson advances to the national championships in the hammer throw. All 48 West region qualifiers ran in one heat of the 10,000, while the overall top 12 from three women's hammer flights advanced.

This marks the first time Colorado State has had two athletes qualify for the 10,000 meters in a single season. Fischer and Mock are the first CSU athletes in position for All-America status in the men's 10,000 since 1975 (Bobby Grubbs), while Jonsson is the fourth Ram in position for All-America status in the women's hammer in program history. Fischer, Jonsson and Mock join decathletes Josh Cogdill and Hunter Price as qualifiers for the NCAA Championships.

Jonsson was the first Ram to advance to the NCAA Championships on Thursday, as she got her ticket punched to Eugene, Ore., with a 10th-place finish in the hammer at the NCAA West Preliminary. Jonsson's best mark of her three attempts was 204-9 (62.40m), the second-best of her career. Fischer finished the 10,000 meters in fifth place with a time of 29:55.98, while Mock finished the 10,000 in 29:57.73 to place ninth.

Macy Kreutz advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's 1,500 meters with a time of 4:25.79 in Thursday's first round. Kreutz placed fifth in a fast second heat, and was 12th overall of the 24 athletes that advanced. Emily Romo placed fourth in her heat of the 400 meters, qualifying for the quarterfinals of the 400 with a time of 54.11.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State distance coach Art Siemers
"The guys (Grant Fischer and Jerrell Mock) have been training so well all outdoor season after having a historic indoor season. When you're qualifying, it always gets a little bit nerve-wrecking. A lot of things can happen, especially when you're in Texas, where you've got hotter and more humid conditions than we're used to training and racing in. We knew that everyone is feeling the same discomfort and we followed the gameplan. Typically, the pace quickens over the last three-to-eight laps where it slowly dwindles down the field to the 12 that usually move on. The goal was to cover every move, but in a patient way, and it worked out well."

NOTES
- The Rams now have five athletes qualified for the NCAA Championships. Combined events athletes do not compete at preliminaries, so decathletes Josh Cogdill and Hunter Price have also already qualified for the national championships.
- The last time a CSU athlete qualified for the NCAA Championships in the women's hammer was in 2015, when Kiah Hicks reached the national championships.
- Jonsson has throws over 200 feet in the women's hammer in four different meets this season.
