Rams earn four CoSIDA Academic All-District honors

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Jefferson Abbey, Mostafa Hassan, Alex Hess and Jerrell Mock of the Colorado State track & field team each earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, potential candidates most have a grade-point average of at least 3.3 along with legitimate credentials in athletics. The recipients of Academic All-District honors are then selected by a vote of the district's sports information directors. Colorado State's athletes are designated for CoSIDA's district seven.
On the women's side, Alex Hess was voted one of the district's top scholar-athletes after maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA in CSU's doctor of veterinary medicine program. Hess has been a contributor to the Rams at the Mountain West Championships in each of the past three seasons, including a fourth-place finish in the 10,000 meters in 2016.
Mostafa Hassan has been enjoying a successful campaign in track & field and in the classroom. The 2017 indoor national champion in the shot put has maintained a 3.37 GPA in mechanical engineering in his junior year. Hassan, who ranks seventh in the world in the shot put, competes at the NCAA West Preliminary this week as the No. 1 seed.
Distance athletes Jefferson Abbey and Jerrell Mock have balanced academics with multiple All-America seasons each. Abbey has tallied a 3.67 GPA while majoring in history, while Mock has compiled a 3.84 GPA in biological science. Mock qualified for the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships with a ninth-place finish in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA West Preliminary, while Abbey runs the 5,000 meters as the No. 2 seed on Saturday.
