FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State University men's golf program has been recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) as an All-Academic Team, the organization announced. This is the fourth consecutive year that the program has earned it under Head Coach Christian Newton and the fourth for the team since the list began in 2009.

"In our program, we continually stress the importance of maintaining balance between academics and athletics and in life overall," Head Coach Christian Newton said. "Our student-athletes earning this award for the third straight year shows that they understand the value in that and have placed an emphasis on their work in the classroom as well as on the course. I am very proud of them accomplishing this goal as another part of this year's great successes."

This year on the course, the Rams had their best finish under Newton, finishing as runner-up at the 2017 Mountain West Championship and earning two other team tournament titles. Addtionally, sophomore Jake Staiano became the 20th Ram ever to be named All-Mountain West and qualified for the NCAA Regionals as an individual, CSU's first representative since the team appeared in 2012 and the first individual to qualify without the team since Derrick Whiting in 2006.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors, a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year and have a 3.0 or better team GPA. There were 102 Division I teams selected for the honor this year, including five from the Mountain West Conference (CSU, New Mexico, UNLV, Utah State and Wyoming).
