How To Watch: Broadcast info for CSU at Hawai'i
9/27/2017 2:31:00 PM | Football
Colorado State's football game at Hawai'i this Saturday—its Mountain West opener—will be televised only in Hawai'i's local viewing area by Spectrum Sports. Outside that broadcast footprint a stream of the game is available, but only on the Stadium app on the iOS platform, for iPhones and iPads.
The television arrangement for this game is governed by the Mountain West's television agreements and the University of Hawai'i's membership terms with the Mountain West. All football games involving MW members are available initially to be chosen for broadcast by MW television partners CBS Sports Network and ESPN.
The Rams' game at Hawai'i was not selected by the national partners, so the television rights to the game reverted to the home team. Hawai'i's local television partner, Spectrum Sports, is televising the game in its local broadcast area.
Hawai'i's local television agreement allows for limited streaming through devices that can reliably support accurate geo-blocking, which restricts access to internet content based upon the user's geographic location. For this stream arrangement, that is only achievable through an app, and the app for Stadium—which launched in July 2017—is currently only available for the iOS platform on Apple products through the App Store. It is not yet available for Android devices and through Google Play.
"The broadcast parameters for this game are inherent to Hawai'i's membership agreement with the Mountain West," said Colorado State Director of Athletics Joe Parker. "Ideally, we would like all of our games to be broadcast nationally, but we do not own those rights individually, as is the case in all athletics conference membership arrangements. We understand, and can relate to, the frustration our fans are expressing. We are continuing to work with our conference membership to maximize our multi-media opportunities."
All seven of Colorado State's remaining regular season games after the Hawai'i game will be televised either by one of the ESPN Networks, CBS Sports Network or AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain.
