Thomas, Ward pick up individual wins for Rams
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The Colorado State swim & dive squad dropped its Border War dual against Wyoming on Wednesday at Moby Pool, 163-131.
CSU is now 1-3 on the season with an 0-1 mark in league action. Wednesday's meet was the Rams' home opener.Â
The Rams won the meet-opening 200 medley relay by less than half a second. Tonicia Thomas, Maddie Ward, Julia Box and Veronica Morin combined to finish in 1:45.54. With the Rams' 'B' relay squad taking third, CSU snagged a quick 13 points early in the meet.
Ward continued her breaststroke dominance, winning both the 100- and 200-yard versions on Wednesday. Freshman Grace Siebmann took second in each event, while fellow freshman Kate Meunier gave the Rams a 1-2-3 result in the 200-yarder.
Thomas also had a pair of wins on the evening. She tied for the win in the 100 backstroke with Wyoming's Samantha Burke (56.52) and then took the victory solo in the 200 (2:02.46), beating Burke by 0.50 seconds.
Reigning Mountain West Swimmer of the Year, Haley Rowley, took a trio of runner-up results -- 500 and 1000 freestyle and in the 200 IM.
IN THEIR WORDS...
"Hopefully we learned that we have a lot of potential but we need to be a complete team. If we hope to compete in this league, we can't afford to miss events. We missed some opportunities today, but overall I'm happy with the fight we showed." -- CSU head coach Christopher Woodard on what his team learned vs. Wyoming
"It's been too long. I love having home meets here. It's our advantage. The crowd gets into it and the girls get super charged up to walk out and compete in front of our fans." -- Woodard on enjoying an opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd at Moby Pool
