Rams Earn 100-66 Opening Night Win Over Colorado Christian

All five starters score in double figures as CSU picks up its first win in the Niko Medved era

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State jumped out to a 26-3 lead and never looked back en route to a 100-66 victory over visiting Colorado Christian in the Rams' season opener, Nov. 7.

Under first-year head coach Niko Medved, CSU came out hot and put the game away with the outburst in the first eight minutes. The Rams eventually led by as many as 39 late in the game, never letting it get closer than 19 the remainder of the game.

CSU shot 52.3 percent (34-of-65) from the floor in the contest, including 51.6 percent (16-of-31) from the three-point arc. The Rams limited the Cougars to just 34.5 percent (20-of-58) from the field, though the visitors were 50.0 percent (14-of-28) from beyond the three-point line. Colorado State dominated the battle of the boards, 49-25, and used that for a 23-0 advantage in second chance points. CSU also turned the ball over just seven times and controlled points in the paint, 36-4.

All five Rams' starters scored in double figures, led by freshman guard Kendle Moore's 26 points, while redshirt-junior guard Anthony Masinton-Bonner added 22 as the duo combined to shoot 17-of-20 from the field and 10-of-12 from the three-point arc. Redshirt-junior center Nico Carvacho picked up his 14th career double-double with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Collin Huun was the only Colorado Christian player in double figures with 21.

  • The Rams shot above 50 percent from the floor in both halves, shooting 54.1 percent (20-of-37) in the opening stanza and then going 50.0 percent (14-of-28) in the second 20 minutes.

  • The Rams are 89-25 in home openers, including 68-12 in the Modern era
  • Redshirt-Junior Nico Carvacho recorded his 14th double-double of his career. Carvacho has recorded a double-double in 11 of the last 17 games he has played.
  • Freshman guard Kendle Moore scored 26 points in his Colorado State debut, shooting 81.8-percent (9-11) from the field and 80-percent from beyond the arc (4-5)
  • The last time CSU scored 100 points in a game was on Nov. 24, 2015 in a 108-100 double-overtime win over Abilene Christian. The last 100-point game in regulation was Dec. 8, 2013 as CSU defeated Southwestern Oklahoma State, 109-55.
  • Anthony Masinton-Bonner tied a career high 22 points in the contest, matching his totals from San Diego State on Jan. 24, 2018.
  • Anthony Masinton-Bonner set a new career high in three pointers made with six.
  • Redshirt-junior Lorenzo Jenkins tallied a career-high 15 points on 40-percent shooting (6-15)
