CSU In Fifth With Play Suspended in Second Round of National Invitational Tournament

TUCSON, Ariz. – Colorado State men's golf is currently fifth when play was suspended late in the second round due to darkeness at the 2018 National Invitational Tournament, Feb. 25. Featuring 11 teams ranked in the top 100 according to Golfweek, the two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of Arizona, is being played at OMNI Tucson National's Catalina Course (Par 72 – 7,200 yards) in Tucson, Ariz.
 
When play was halted, the Rams were 6-under for the second round and 12-under for the tournament, having moved up two spots in the second 18. UNLV had taken over the lead with a blistering 25-under score so far to move up to 35-under for the event. Arizona State is two shots back at 33-under, followed by Arizona at 25-under. Iowa State is 9-under in the middle of their round to improve to 16-under, followed by the Rams.
 
In the completed opening round, the Rams shot a 6-under 282, putting them in seventh place, just four shots out of second. Arizona State was the 18-hole leader at 21-under 267, 11 shots better than UNLV in second at 10-under 278. Host Arizona was in third at 9-under 279, with Nevada fourth at 8-under 280. Iowa State and North Texas were tied for fifth at 7-under 281.
 
Individually when play was suspended, sophomore AJ Ott and freshman Parathakorn Suyasri are tied for 16th at 5-under, as Ott is 3-under through 15 holes and Suyasri is 3-under through 16 holes of their second rounds. Senior Max Oelfke is tied for 42nd at even, while senior Colton Yates and junior Jake Staiano are tied for 61st at 3-over. UNLV's Shintaro Ban is the current leader at 12-under, one shot ahead of Chun An Yu of Arizona State.
 
Teams will conclude the final 2-3 holes on Monday morning and then proceed with the final 18 holes of the tournament.
