Rams get contributions and multiple personal and season bests en route to pair of top-three team finishes

BOULDER, Colo. – The Colorado State women's track & field team claimed second place at the Colorado Invitational, while the men's team placed third after two days of competition at the CU Indoor Practice Facility and the Balch Fieldhouse.

On the men's side, No. 13 Colorado State tallied 85.33 points, placing five points within Air Force (90 points) and host Colorado (98 points). On the women's side, CSU scored 134.5 points to place behind only Colorado (148 points). The next-closest team, Wyoming, was 64.5 points back of CSU. 17 men's teams and 15 women's teams were in competition at the meet.

Highlighting individual performances was the 2017-18 indoor debut of CSU senior and All-American Grant Fischer. The Fort Collins, Colo., native clocked a time of 8:13.36 in the 3,000 meters to place second. When converted for altitude, Fischer's time improves to 7:59.51, which is topped by the performances of only 19 other athletes in the NCAA this season.

Roxy Trotter and Dominique Ward were in action for the second straight day, taking fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 800 meters. Trotter finished in 2:12.37, while Ward stopped the clock in 2:13.10. Trotter's time ranks seventh on CSU's all-time indoor list, while Ward's ranks 10th. Freshman Hannah Freeman also had a notable finish in the 800, as she placed eighth with a time of 2:15.98.

Freshman Destinee Rocker clocked the meet's top times in each of the preliminaries and finals of the 60-meter hurdles. The Lithonia, Ga., native ran her preliminary heat in 8.42 before recording a personal-best time of 8.37 to win the final by nearly a quarter of a second. Rocker's 8.37 ranks third all-time in program history. Senior Jalen Hunter was the top collegian on the men's side after finishing in 8.02

In the sprints, freshman Jessica Ozoude made her collegiate debut in the 400 meters, finishing fourth (third among collegians) with a time of 56.68. Annemarie Carlson placed eighth in that event, finishing the 400 meters in 57.79. Ozoude's time ranks 12th in program history, while Carlson's time ranks 19th on CSU's all-time indoor list. In the 60 meters, junior Marybeth Sant took second place with a time of 7.50. Rounding out top women's performers in the sprints was freshman Jasmine Chesson, who placed seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 25:03. Chesson's time ranks 16th on CSU's all-time indoor list.

On the men's side, Ronald Sayles placed eighth in the 400 meters (seventh among collegians) with an indoor-best time of 48.39. Julian Dulaney placed eighth (No. 7 collegian) in the 200 meters with a time of 21.84. Sayles' time ranks 11th in the 400 in program history, while Delaney's time moves him to 15th on CSU's all-time indoor list in the 200.

Colorado State took the top two spots in the women's shot put. Sophomore Maria Muzzio won the event with an indoor-best mark of 46-11.57 (14.32m), while freshman Tarynn Sieg registered a throw of 46-8.25 (14.23m) to place second. On the men's side, Austin Blaho took the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 57-2 (17.42m).

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Brian Bedard
"The distance crew really had it rolling. There were really good competition and really good fields. Grant (Fischer) had a special day, as did a lot of our other athletes. A lot of special performances and a lot of personal records. That middle distance/distance crew was a highlight for us. We definitely had some exciting moments in the meet. There were some areas I thought we could've done better, but overall, I thought we had a pretty good meet."

On Destinee Rocker:
"Her level of focus and intensity in practice…she just doesn't act like a freshman. She acts like a veteran with her attitude and effort every practice. I just don't ever see her off in any practice, and that's one reason why she's doing so well. I wish I had a whole team of people that were as focused as she is every day in practice. She's just eager to get better and eager to be coached. She's an example for a lot of other athletes on the team."

NOTES
- Only nine athletes in program history have a time better than Grant Fischer's from Saturday.
- Four active Rams now have a time on CSU's all-time indoor top 20 in the women's 400 meters. Those are Annemarie Carlson, Jasmine Chesson, Emma Kratzberg and Jessica Ozoude.
