CSU improves six shots in afternoon round to move up four spots
CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Colorado State men's golf overcame a slow start with an improved second round and is sixth through 36 holes of the 2018 Lamkin San Diego Classic, March 12. Featuring16 teams all ranked in the top 150 according to Golfweek, the two-day, 54-hole tournament, co-hosted by the University of San Diego and San Diego State University, is being played at San Diego Country Club (Par 72 – 7,033 yards) in Chula Vista, Calif.

The Rams were in 10th after the morning 18 after posting a 4-over 292 with the top player rounds a pair of even-par 72s. However in the afternoon 18, CSU was one of just five teams to post an under-par round, posting a 2-under 286 to move up four spots into sixth at 2-over 578. Top-ranked Oklahoma State is the 36-hole leader at 23-under 553, 17 shots ahead of co-host San Diego State at 6-under 570. North Carolina and Texas Tech are tied for third at 4-under 572, with Arizona rounding out the top five teams at 3-under 573.

CSU is led by junior Jake Staiano who is tied for 12th at 2-under 142 through 36 holes, with an even-par 72 in the morning and a 2-under 70 in the afternoon. Senior Colton Yates is next for the Rams at 2-over 146, with sophomore AJ Ott and senior Max Oelfke tied for 47th at 4-over 148. Oelfke had the top round of the day for CSU, shooting a 3-under 69 in the second 18 that included five birdies to just two bogeys. Freshman Parathakorn Suyasri is the final team player in a tie for 74th at 7-over 151, including a 1-over 73 in the morning 18. Playing as an individual, freshman Jack Ainscough is at even-par 144 in a tie for 22nd after shooting a 1-over 73 in the morning and improving with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon.
