Rams continue action at Mines Nature’s Bakery Invite at 10 a.m. MT on Saturday

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado State sophomore Maria Muzzio registered the No. 8 mark on the program's all-time outdoor list in the shot put to pace the Rams on the opening day of the Mines Nature's Bakery Invite and their first day of competition this outdoor season. Friday's action was held from the Stermole Track & Field Complex.

Muzzio's mark was 50-7.5 (15.43m), a new personal best and a new outdoor best by nearly five feet (45-11.75/14.01m). With her performance, the Fairfax, Va., native also became the 10th athlete in program history to record a mark of 50 or more feet in the women's outdoor shot put.

Each of sophomore Amelia Harvey, junior Gabby Smith and senior Talia Marquez are on pace for an all-time top-20 score on CSU's heptathlon list through the first four events. Harvey is in second place at the meet with 2,852 points, while Smith is in third with 2,832 and Marquez is fourth with 2,827. Rams won three of four heptathlon events on Friday, as Harvey took first place in the 100-meter hurdles (14.85, w: 4.0) and 200 meters (24.80, w: 3.6) and Smith took first place in the shot put (36-9.5/11.21m).

Freshman decathlete Eric Lundgren is also on pace for one of CSU's all-time top-20 marks, as he sits in third place (second among collegians) with 3,561 points through five events. Lundgren, who made his collegiate decathlon debut on Friday, won the shot put by over four-and-a-half feet (46-1.25/14.05m) and placed second and as the top collegian in the high jump (6-2.75/1.90m).

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Brian Bedard
On Maria Muzzio:
"We just changed her to a rotational technique this fall. Some things are starting to work for her, so that's fun to see. She was a glider last year, which is a completely different technique, so we made the move to try to suit her talents – her footspeed and ability to rotate. Any time you make a major shift in technique, inconsistencies are there and she's done a really good job of being coachable. We're off to a good start there."

NOTES
- Colorado State freshman Jackson Morris competed unattached on Friday, but had the top javelin mark of any athlete at the meet. Morris won the event with a mark of 194-3 (59.20m), which is bettered by only 15 athletes in program history.
- Eric Lundgren's shot put mark of 46-1.25 (14.05m) is the best by any current decathlete on Colorado State's roster.
