Junior becomes first Ram to receive honor since 2003-04
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior Haley Rowley has been named the Mountain West Swimmer of the Year, the league office announced today.
Rowley was named the MW Swimmer of the Meet at the 2018 MW Championship in February. At the meet she scored 91 individual points, tying for the most of any swimmer at the meet. That point total included wins in the 400 IM and 1650 Freestyle, along with a third-place finish in the 500 Free.
The Lafayette, Colo., native becomes the second CSU athlete to be named MW Swimmer of the Year – Kristen Schneider won the award after the 2003-04 season.
Rowley set four individual team records at the MW Championship (400 IM, 500/1000/1650 Free) and was also a part of the record-breaking 800 Free Relay unit.
The human development & family studies major won an additional six events during the regular season, all coming during CSU's 6-0 stretch in January. Her return to the lineup after the New Year helped spark the Rams to their first 6-0 month in program history.
"I am overwhelmed with emotion," Rowley said. "I am incredibly honored to receive this award. To me, it is more than just an award, but a testament to overcoming adversity and rising above in the end. I feel very fortunate to be surrounded by such a caring and understanding team and coaching staff. The support that CSU athletics has provided me in my unexpected time of need and struggle was unparalleled and helped propel me to such a shocking and successful season. This whole season has truly inspired a whole new perspective and awakening within myself that I cannot wait to share with my teammates going into my senior year. I feel now that anything is possible for the Rams."
Rowley also had marks this season that qualified as NCAA 'B' qualifying times in the 500 and 1650 Free and the 400 IM. She earned All-MW honors in the same three events for the second season in a row.
CSU finished up a successful 2017-18 campaign with a fifth-place finish at the MW Championships in mid-February. The team finished with an 8-3 dual meet record, its best since the 2009-10 season.

One week ago, @HalesRowley broke the CSU record in the 400 IM…again.
