Kelcey Bedard and Sanne Holland register personal-best performances for top-15 finishes
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Kelcey Bedard and Sanne Holland of the Colorado State track & field team registered personal-best performances in their respective events to highlight performances by Rams at the NCAA West Preliminary on Friday from Hornet Stadium.
Â
Bedard finished just shy of qualification for the NCAA Outdoor Championships after a personal-best performance in the discus, placing 14th overall with a mark of 173-11 (53.00m). Her mark ranks 11th on CSU's all-time outdoor list in the event. In order to qualify for the NCAA Championships in any individual event, athletes generally must place among the top 12 in their respective events. Sophomore Maria Muzzio, the 2018 Mountain West champion in the women's discus, took 32nd in Friday's competition with a mark of 162-4 (49.48m).
Â
Holland placed just three spots out of an NCAA Championships berth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, but finished the race with the No. 3 time in program history. The senior clocked a time of 10:07.26, which ranks as a personal best by over 14 seconds.
Â
Colorado State also had athletes in action in each of the women's and men's hurdles to round out Rams in competition on Friday. Freshman Destinee Rocker placed 34th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.84, while senior Jalen Hunter clocked a time of 14.41 for 32nd in the men's 110-meter hurdles.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Brian Bedard
On personal bests by Kelcey Bedard and Sanne Holland:
"That was kind of the goal for both of them – to try to hit a personal best and at least give yourself a shot to advance. For Kelcey, it was just a matter of focusing on her and what she needed to do and not worrying about what everyone else was doing. Conditions weren't great today and she threw a lifetime best so that gave her an opportunity. Sanne just ran an inspired race. She knew it was possibly her final race so she just went for it. "
NOTES
- The only two athletes in program history with faster times than Sanne Holland in the 3,000-meter steeplechase are Janelle Lincks (10:00.02 on June 8, 2017) and Kristen Hemphill (10:02.59 on April 15, 2010).
- Holland's previous personal best performance in the steeplechase came on April 14, 2017 (10:21.52).
- Kelcey Bedard's previous personal best in the discus was 173-10. That throw came on April 2, 2017.
