Rams’ three honors are most for any Division I program from the state of Colorado, most for any track & field program from the Mountain West
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Colorado State's Linnea Jonsson, Jerrell Mock and Justin Weinmeister were each named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country teams, selected by CoSIDA. The organization released the list of award winners on Tuesday.
To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, potential candidates must have a grade-point average of at least 3.3 along with legitimate credentials in athletics. The recipients of Academic All-District honors are then selected by a vote of the district's sports information directors. Colorado State's athletes are designated for CoSIDA's district seven, which includes nine different states.
The Rams' three CoSIDA Academic All-District selections are most of any Division I track & field program from the state of Colorado, and are the most for any track & field institution that competes in the Mountain West.
Mock, who also earned 2017 CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-America distinction, is a repeat winner of CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. The senior from Logan, Utah has maintained a 3.85 GPA in biological science while finishing off a career that included four All-America honors between track & field and cross country. At the conference level, Mock is a five-time Mountain West champion, a nine-time All-Mountain West performer and the conference meet record holder in the 10,000 meters.
Distance and cross country teammate Justin Weinmeister has also put together an exceptional scholastic career, and has a 4.0 GPA while pursuing his master's degree in mechanical engineering. The top event for the six-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete is the 10,000 meters, an event in which he ranks 19th on CSU's all-time outdoor list.
On the women's side, Jonsson has balanced national-caliber throwing performances with equally as strong academic credentials. The native of Sweden is an Honorable Mention All-America performer in the hammer throw, and was the Mountain West's champion in the event in 2017. Jonsson, the No. 4 performer in the hammer in program history, currently has a 3.86 GPA in neuroscience.
Four members of the Colorado State track & field team have qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and will compete from June 6-9 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
