BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Jackson Morris of the Colorado State track & field team is one of 12 athletes slated to compete in the men's javelin throw this Friday at the 2018 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships.

The 2018 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships is hosted by Indiana from the Hayes Track at the Haugh Complex in Bloomington, Ind. The men's javelin is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. MT/6:30 p.m. ET on Friday. Of the 12 entries, the top eight performers will advance to finals, which is held immediately following trials.

"Jackson's ranked in the top three and has a real chance here," Colorado State head coach Brian Bedard said. "One of the benefits of doing well here is that you can qualify for the junior world team if you do well enough. It's an awesome experience to make a U.S. national team, so that's a goal for us. One other goal is to really give this thing a go and see if he can't break our school record. Hopefully he can check off a couple of these boxes out here. He's matured a lot physically over the summer – he's gotten a lot bigger and I'm excited to see what he can do."

A full recap and final results will be posted to CSURams.com as soon as each are available. The action can be followed in real-time through live results and a live webcast, each provided by USATF. The live webcast is available to USATF subscribers.

Morris is the No. 3-seeded competitor in the men's javelin field based upon his lifetime-best mark of 223-6 (68.12m) from the NoCo Challenge on April 14. Morris, a freshman in 2017-18, competed unattached in that meet, but only one athlete in program history has a better mark (223-11/68.24m by Mattias Borman in 1994).

Morris won each of his three javelin competitions in 2018. The Albuquerque, N.M., native threw no shorter than 194-3 (63.19m), and topped 200 feet twice. Prior to joining Colorado State, Morris was a New Mexico 5A state champion in each of the javelin, shot put and discus.
