Incoming Freshman Bryant Wins Colorado Junior PGA Championship

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Incoming freshman Davis Bryant (Auroro, Colo./Eaglecrest) has advanced onto the 2018 Boys Junior PGA Championship for the second consecutive year by defending his title at the Colorado Junior PGA Championship. The tournament was contested at the Air Force Academy's Eisenhower Blue Golf Course, June 11-13.

The reigning state 5A champion advanced by winning the tournament with a comfortable four-shot victory, shooting a 6-under 210 (68-69-73) in the 54-hole event. Bryant became the first boys player to win consecutive Colorado Junior PGAs since Steven Kupcho in 2010 and '11. Overall, he is the fourth boy to win the event twice in a row.

The 2018 national Junior PGA Championship will be contested July 31-August 3 at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky. Last year, Bryant tied for 14th in the national event, shooting 5-under 283 (73-74-69-67) in the prestigious tournament. He also qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur last year, advancing to match play before falling in his opening match in 21 holes.

One of golf's major championships for juniors, the Boys Junior PGA Championship features 144 players and is where the best in the world get their start including: 2017 Open Champion Jordan Spieth, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Stewart Cink, Trevor Immelman, Justin Leonard, David Toms and Scott Verplank. The format is a 72-hole, stroke-play championship, with a cut after 36 holes to the low 70 plus ties. In the event of a tie after 72 holes, there will be a hole-by-hole playoff.
