Morris finishes third, ranks as No. 10 performer in program history (202-0/61.57m) in men’s javelin

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Colorado State's Jackson Morris placed third in the men's javelin throw on Friday at the 2018 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships from Hayes Track at the Haugh Complex.

The freshman's best effort on Friday was a throw of 202-0 (61.57m). With that performance, the Albuquerque, N.M., native now ranks as the No. 10 performer in program history in the event. His best throw was on his fifth attempt of the day. Morris reached the final three rounds of the event with a throw of 201-8 (61.47m), which was also ranked third through the first half of javelin competition. Three of Morris' throws on Friday were 198 feet or better.

Morris also entered as the No. 3-seeded competitor in the men's javelin field, based upon his lifetime-best mark of 223-6 (68.12m) from the NoCo Challenge on April 14. He competed unattached in that meet, but only one athlete in program history had a better official mark while competing with collegiate eligibility (223-11/68.24m by Mattias Borman in 1994). Morris won each of his three prior javelin competitions in 2018, throwing no shorter than 194-3 (63.19m) and over 200 feet twice.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Brian Bedard
"Obviously I'm proud of Jackson coming in here and taking third place at junior nationals. He may not have hit some of his goals that he wanted to, but third here is a great achievement. He did a good job of being very coachable throughout - he just had a little bit of a hard time putting together a complete throw. He'd do things well on one throw and some not well, then make the correction on one aspect but something else would be off. But it was good to see him out here in a Colorado State uniform, and I'm proud of what he did here."

NOTES
- Jackson Morris was also the No. 2 collegiate finisher. The second-place finisher, Tzuriel Pedigo, competed unattached.
- Pedigo and Wichita State's Taran Taylor, who was Friday's winner, are the only American juniors with a better javelin mark than Morris in 2018.
