Hornung retained; Katsuma, Montie and De Ciman added to the program

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State men's basketball head coach Niko Medved has completed the staff for his program, retaining Pierce Hornung as director of player development and naming Aaron Katsuma as director of basketball operations, Emma Montie as director of basketball administration and former Ram Joe De Ciman as graduate assistant.

Hornung enters his third season on the Colorado State men's basketball staff and second as director of player development after spending the 2015-16 season as director of operations. Hornung, a native of Arvada, Colo., returned to the Colorado State men's basketball program where he helped the Rams to 81 victories from 2009-10 to 2012-13, at the time the winningest four-year stretch in program history.  He concluded his playing career at CSU as the Rams' career leader in steals (156). Regarded as one of the top rebounders in the country throughout his CSU career, Hornung also finished No. 3 on the Rams' career-rebounding list with 799 boards. He  is also fourth all-time in games played at CSU (123) and closed his career at No. 5 on the Rams' career field-goal percentage chart (.587). Hornung competed his degree in finance from Colorado State in 2013 and worked at the Bank of Colorado as a loan officer for two years before rejoining the program.

"Pierce and I have known each other for a long time, having gone through the recruiting, playing and now coaching experience together," Medved commented. "Pierce bleeds 'Green and Gold' and is a true Ram in every sense of the word. The perspective he brings is valuable, having had a prominent career during one of the program's most successful runs. In addition, his tremendous connections around the campus and community will serve the program well."

Katsuma comes to CSU after spending the last year with Medved at Drake as the Bulldogs' director of operations. Prior to his time at Drake, Katsuma spent seven years with the University of Minnesota men's basketball program, most recently in the 2016-17 season as the assistant director of player personnel at the University of Minnesota. Katsuma also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant with the Gophers after a four-year tenure as a student-manager. During his seven seasons in Minneapolis, the Gophers made four postseason appearances including an NIT title in 2014 and NCAA Tournaments in 2013 and 2017. Katsuma earned a master's degree in applied kinesiology and a bachelor's degree in sports management from the University of Minnesota.

"Aaron is a tireless worker and brings extreme value to all facets of our program," Medved said. "He connects well with everyone he meets, and we are excited that he has joined us at Colorado State."

Montie spent the last four seasons working with the University of Minnesota men's basketball program, including the last two as a graduate assistant manager. In that role, she coordinated player schedules, team practices, and other relevant scheduling needs while assisting with all team practices and events. She also handled road operations while team was travelling, working alongside operations staff, and organized scheduling, preparation, and hospitality for student recruit visits. A 2016 graduate of Minnesota with both a bachelor's and master's in sports management, Montie also interned with the development and marketing departments during her undergraduate career.

"Emma is a talented young lady who brings great experience to our program after her time at the University of Minnesota," Medved continued. "She will be instrumental in helping our program be at our best in all areas."

De Ciman returns to Fort Collins after having spent the last two seasons playing professionally, including as a starter for the 2017-18 season for Sammic Iraurgi Saski Baloia in Spain, where he averaged 9.4 points and 3.0 rebounds a game while shooting 51.3 percent from the floor. He finished his CSU career as the winningest player in program history with 87 wins during his four years in Fort Collins. He also is tied for third in career games played with 123, starting in 89 of them and the last 73 straight. As a senior, he started all 34 games, averaging 10.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and a team-high 32.7 minutes per game while shooting 39.0 percent (67-of-172) from behind the three-point line, ranking fifth in the Mountain West. In addition to his accolades on the court, De Ciman was a four-time Academic All-Mountain West honoree for his work in the classroom.

"Joe was a terrific player and student during his career at Colorado State, and most importantly, he is an outstanding person," Medved said. "I am thrilled he is coming back to us as a graduate assistant, and I know he will be a great role model for our student-athletes."
