Ott Qualifies For Second Straight U.S. Amateur Appearance

Rising junior was runner-up at Fort Collins Country Club Qualifier
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Rising junior AJ Ott earned a spot in the 2018 U.S. Amateur with his runner-up finish at the local qualifier at Fort Collins Country Club, July 2. Ott was one of three players to garner a place in the event at famed Pebble Beach Golf Club in Monterrey, Calif., Aug. 13-19.
Ott shot a 7-under 133 in the two-round event, including a tournament-best 5-under 65 on the final day to secure his spot in the tournament. In Monday's opening round, Ott posted a 2-under 68 that included four birdies and two bogeys. He surpassed that with seven birdies to two bogeys on the final day, including a stretch of five birdies to just one bogey on the opening nine to start the day with a 4-under 31.
This will be his second consecutive appearance in the tournament, having tied for second in last year's qualifier at Fort Collins Country Club. He then came within a shot of advancing to match play at the top national event.
Other current Ram finishers at the qualifier were rising senior Jake Staiano at 2-under 138, incoming freshman David Bryant at 2-over 142, rising redshirt-freshman Andrew Lafferty at 3-over 143.
