Lawrence, a three-time First-Team All-American, will be immediately eligible for the Rams in 2018-19
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - NCAA discus champion and three-time First-Team All-American Shadae Lawrence has signed a financial aid agreement with the Colorado State track & field team, head coach Brian Bedard announced on Tuesday.
Lawrence will join the program with senior eligibility and will be immediately eligible to compete for the Rams this upcoming season. The native of St. Catherine, Jamaica was the NCAA runner-up in the women's discus in 2018 after winning the national title in 2017 and placing fourth at NCAAs as a freshman for Kansas State.
The rising senior joins CSU with a lifetime-best mark of 205-4 (62.59m) in the women's discus, a Kansas State record. In addition, that conference-title winning discus mark also ranks as a Big 12 Championships record and as the facility record in the event for Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kan. No female athlete in CSU history has thrown the discus as far as Lawrence, as Shelly Greathouse-Borman's mark of 198-8 (60.55m) from 1999 stands as the current program record.
In addition to her NCAA distinctions, Lawrence is also the reigning Jamaican national champion in the women's discus. She is also a two-time Big 12 individual champion, and in 2016, was named Big 12 Outstanding Freshman of the Year.
Lawrence is the 18th student-athlete to sign with Colorado State track & field leading up to the upcoming indoor and outdoor seasons. She is one of three throwers in the signing class for this season, joining Gabi McDonald (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain HS) and Morgan Stewart (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge HS).
