Sant and Sayles sweep women’s and men’s track athlete of the week honors; Bedard receives recognition among women’s field competitors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State's Kelcey Bedard, Marybeth Sant and Ronald Sayles have received weekly accolades for the Mountain West following their respective performances at the Potts Indoor Invitational this past weekend. The conference announced its weekly accolades on Tuesday.

Bedard was named Mountain West Women's Field Athlete of the Week, while Sant and Sayles swept the respective women's and men's Track Athlete of the Week honors. This is the fourth Mountain West weekly honor for Bedard (second indoor), second for Sayles (first indoor) and first for Sant. Tuesday's recognition gives CSU four for the 2018-19 academic year, as they join Cole Rockhold, who was honored during the cross country season.

Sant clocked a time of 7.18 in the women's 60 meters on Saturday at the Potts Indoor Invitational, breaking her own program record of 7.26 that she established at the Mines Alumni Classic & Multi on Dec. 7. In addition to the program record, her time ranks as the No. 2 mark in the event in the world this indoor season, and after adjusting for altitude (7.20), remains the best time in the NCAA in 2018-19. Furthermore, Sant's time is third in Mountain West history, just one hundredth of a second behind the all-time conference record.

Sayles won the men's 200 meters in Boulder, Colo, clocking a indoor-best time of 21.29. Sayles' time ranks third on CSU's all-time indoor list, and after adjusting for altitude to 21.36, ranks as the No. 16 mark on the 2018-19 NCAA Division I Indoor Qualifying List to this point in the indoor season. In addition, Sayles ranks atop the Mountain West in the event by nearly three tenths of a second.

Bedard topped the women's weight throw field at CU by nearly nine feet on Saturday, turning in a season-best performance of 64-7.75 (19.70m). The senior's mark ranks 28th on the 2018-19 NCAA Division I Indoor Qualifying List, and leads the Mountain West by over five feet. Only four other athletes in program history have registered a mark in the women's weight throw better than Bedard's mark registered on Saturday.

The Colorado State track & field team returns to action on Friday at the Air Force Team Challenge. The meet is held at Cadet Field House from USAF Academy, Colo.
