Powell earns weekly conference recognition following his performance in the heptathlon at Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following his performance in the heptathlon at Air Force last weekend, Colorado State senior Hunter Powell has been named Mountain West Men's Field Athlete of the Week. The conference announced its weekly accolades on Tuesday.

This marks the first weekly Mountain West honor for Powell. He is the fifth member of the Colorado State track & field team to earn weekly recognition from the conference during the 2018-19 academic year, along with Kelcey Bedard, Marybeth Sant, Ronald Sayles and Cole Rockhold (cross country).

Powell completed his first heptathlon at CSU with a score of 5,209, topping this weekend's field at Air Force by nearly 600 points. The senior's performance was a personal best, and ranks sixth on CSU's all-time indoor list. Additionally, Powell is the current Mountain West leader in the heptathlon, and as of Tuesday, ranks 19th in the NCAA and 71st in the world when including performances on all track sizes.

The Colorado State track & field team returns to action at the Colorado Invitational from Thursday, Jan. 31 through Saturday, Feb. 2. The meet will be held from the CU Indoor Practice Facility in Boulder, Colo.
