Rams Surge in Finals on Day 2 of Hansel Invite

Trio of divers place on 3-meter board
HOUSTON – For the second consecutive day at the Phill Hansel Invitational, a solid preliminary session was followed with better performances in the finals, with Colorado State's swimmers dropping time and moving up places Friday at the CRWC Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston.
The Rams earned 16 finals swims from the morning, half of them in scoring heats. As the finals progress, the team dropped time in 10 of those races and placed better than their prelims seeding in 10, as well.
After two days, the Rams sit in seventh place with 373 points.
Elsa Litteken and Olivia Chatman placed 11th and 12 in the 100-yard backstroke, posting times of 56.12 and 56.37, respectively. The Rams also had two scorers in the 100 butterfly as Jennae Frederick (55.35) and Julia Box (55.03) placed 12th and 17th in the back. Marie Goodwyn placed 13th in the 400 individual medley in 4:24.76, Sydnee Whitty placed 18th in the 200 freestyle at 1:50.58 (fifth-best time in program history) and Maddie Ward was 22nd in the 100 breaststroke at 1:03.80.
In non-scoring swims, Madison Hunter and Abbey Owenby (400 IM), Sarah Mundy (200 free), and Caroline Perry and Box (100 back) all dropped time during the finals.
Both of the relays placed in the top eight. The 400 medley quad of Elsa Litteken, Maddie Ward, Julia Box and Sydnee Whitty touched seventh in 1:42.44. In the 800 free relay, the Rams' group of Hope Jestes, Mundy, Andrea Basile and Whitty were also seventh at 7:33.38 in their first effort of the season in the event.
A trio of divers scored, with Skylar Williams leading the way with another strong performance, scoring 274.85 on the 3-meter to place fifth. Rachel Holland came in 16th (236.50), Katie Leonard 21st (224.00).
Saturday's sessions close out the meet, with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. MT, the finals at 2 p.m. Events to be competed are: 1,650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 400 free relay and platform diving.
