Local Freshman Earns Season’s First MW Field Athlete of the Week

Bushara Collects MW Weekly Award to Start Career
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State's hometown kid, Allam Bushara, fresh out of Fort Collins High School was named Mountain West Field Athlete of the Week in the season's first edition, announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Bushara, a freshman for the Rams, burst onto the scene last Saturday at the UCCS Holiday Open inside the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse. He won the triple jump logging 15.15 meters or 49 feet and 8.50 inches for a personal record and the sixth-best mark in program history.
The performance resides atop the MW results, but also goes further in prestige as it registers seventh best in the nation. On the MW list, Bushara is ahead of teammate Isa Bynum by just over a foot (.35m).
The score was an improvement of his Ram debut the week prior by half a meter.
At the UCCS Holiday Invite, Bushara was one of 10 individual event titles that CSU garnered. Additionally, he recorded a personal-best mark in the long jump at 6.48m (21'3.25'') for seventh place.
Bushara graduated FCHS with the school record in triple jump to go with his 5A triple jump state championship as a junior and runner-up finish as a senior.
A span of 26 days separates the UCCS Holiday Invite and CSU's next meet, the Potts Indoor Invitational, occurring Jan. 10th-11th in Boulder, Colo.

"What Allam did this weekend did not surprise me. He's looked good in training, so it was about settling down in the meet and competing. Lucky for us, he likes to compete. It's great to see him put at little pressure on our upperclassman, Isa Bynum. Their intrasquad competitiveness elevates the entire team. As a true freshman, it will be fun to see Allam progress throughout the season. I'm excited with what he will do this year."
