CSU has a pair of under-par rounds in its 11-shot victory

PALM DESERT, Calif. – Colorado State men's golf got the spring season off to a solid start with an 11-stroke victory in its dual match with Denver Wednesday. Unable to finish the second round due to darkness, the dual was played at Classic Club (Par 72 – 7,322 yards) in Palm Desert, Calif.

As a team, CSU posted a 1-over 289 in the morning round as compared to Denver's team total of 12-over 300. The Rams were led by sophomore Parathakorn Suyasri's 3-under 69 to take top honors in the dual. Senior Jake Staiano was second overall with a 1-under 71, while junior AJ Ott was fourth at 2-over 74. Freshman Oscar Teiffel tied for sixth at 3-over 75 while fellow freshman Davis Bryant posted a 7-over 79. Individually, sophomore Cullen Plousha had a 2-over 74, while sophomore Jack Ainscough finished at 3-over 75. For Denver, the Pioneers were led by freshman Cal McCoy with a 1-over 73.

"We had a really nice round coming out of the off season," head coach Christian Newton said. "It's a shame to not get the second round in, as we had a few guys playing really well. All in all, I'm happy with the result."

The Rams stay in California and at the same course, as the squad will compete in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at Classic Club Friday-Sunday, Feb. 22-24. The tournament features five teams ranked among the Top 60 men's golf programs in the nation based on the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin Men's College Team Ratings, including the No. 52 Rams.
